Showing Up: A Small Yet Powerful Act
This legislative session has been difficult to say the least. A firestorm of accusations was set ablaze in the Colorado General Assembly thanks to the momentum of the #MeToo movement. So far, one Representative has been expelled from the Colorado House and several Senators are under investigation. Progressives have been emboldened by what they see as an excellent chance in the 2018 elections to gain control of the Senate with the possibility of having total control of the Executive and Legislative branches in Colorado. We must ask ourselves — what are we willing to do to make sure that doesn’t happen?
What would you tell your children if it was on your watch that we lost the ability to homeschool freely (without the state requiring approval)? Bills to add quarterly home visits, background checks, and increased testing have been introduced in other states. Pressure is being put on legislators to solve the apparent abuse problems in the homeschooling community. In Colorado, many legislators believe that parental rights are not fundamental to a free society. Take a look at the curriculum in your local public school and you’ll see that in that system’s paradigm a biblical worldview is contrary to a culturally sensitive society.
One small yet very powerful thing your entire family can do is to show up at the CHEC Homeschool Day at the Capitol on the morning of Friday, April 13th. Showing up tells legislators that you care about what laws they are enacting. Showing up lets them see that homeschoolers in Colorado are numerous. Showing up, and uniting behind the common cause of freedom, magnifies your voice. Showing up blesses those legislators that continually stand on biblical principles and swim upstream against the politically correct atmosphere of the Capitol. Showing up sets a bold and courageous example for your children.
We have invited all the Colorado Legislators to join us at the noon rally on the west steps of the Capitol to celebrate with us the 30th Anniversary of Colorado’s Homeschool Law! (Cake is included for all!) We will be remembering how God used many unlikely people in crafting and maintaining our law. Without their tenacity and God’s grace where would we be? You are playing a role in the story of homeschooling in Colorado — join with us as we celebrate that story.
Showing up — it’s a small act but one that I hope and pray will be a catalyst for more small acts.
Remember to order the Future Statesman workbook for your child! It’s full of the history of Colorado’s homeschool law! You can order it when you register for Homeschool Day at the Capitol.
Please, register so that we know how much cake to purchase!! Go here to register.
Invite your friends! If you know families who used to homeschool or have children who have graduated from homeschool, tell them about this celebration and ask them to join us! If you know people who love freedom, invite them too!
Trusting in the mighty power and grace of Jesus!
