“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
Romans 15:13
The other day someone asked me “what do you know for sure?” While they may have been asking me what I think will happen in the upcoming session, my answer exemplified the perspective I must hold on to while confronting the persecution that will surely come. I told them that the only thing I know for certain is that Jesus will come again and will make all things new.
Hope. That intangible essence that holds all things together. Our God is the God of hope. It was not a surprise to Him that a majority of the people of Colorado would give complete control of the state government to the Democratic party. Despite many godly people working hard and praying just as hard for another outcome, we are left with a government that we know will be hostile to traditional biblical values. Yet, our hope must remain strong in Him who holds all things together.
Joy and peace. Only in believing in the sovereign Lord, the God of hope, can we even attempt to find joy and peace. As I prepare for this session, I must continually push my heart to rest in His truth, which is the only real source of joy and peace. He has placed us here at this time, in this place, for a purpose. He has placed me at the Capitol and He has asked me to speak truth, even though so many shun it and actively oppose it.
My hope, joy, and peace rest in Jesus Christ. I know He is with me as He sends me to reflect His light and truth, but it is a lonely place to stand. Will you pray with me that those who truly believe will abound in hope as they battle the darkness and godlessness found in our government? Pray also that the Lord will provide for me the needed support to withstand the arrows of the enemy.
Jesus will come again, until then, we must push back the evil that tries to subdue the gospel and silence His people. “Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good” (Romans 12:9b).
Praying that at this celebration of His first advent, you and your family will know joy and peace because of your belief in the God of all hope.
