Ready…Set…Wait and Prepare
As of today, there are fifty-one days left in the session. A lot can still happen. A bill introduced this late in the session could breeze through the entire process in three days. Rumblings of a possible homeschool bill last fall picked up steam early in the session but has yet to be seen. We have reached out to legislators and continue to pray for God’s mercy. Our greatest prayer is that level heads will prevail. As we wait, it doesn’t mean we’re inactive.
The initial reaction of legislators and bureaucrats to a tragedy, such as the death of a child, is to do something so it won’t happen again. Often that means increased government oversight. Now is the time to prepare to protect the home education law in Colorado. Educate yourself, share the information with your friends, and be ready to defend your freedom to homeschool when the time comes.
Know the Colorado homeschool law.
Consider the following questions:
- What do we know about the success of homeschooling?
- Do parents have a fundamental right to direct the education of their children?
- Are home visits without probable cause, as proposed in several states, Constitutional?
- Is homeschooling a risk factor in child abuse or neglect? If not, what is?
- Is there a correlation between the degree of regulation and abuse of homeschool children?
- What should our response be to the threat of increased regulation?
- What questions should be asked when considering any new policy or law?
