Legislative Update October 31, 2018

Soon we will know the new makeup of the Colorado Assembly which will determine what kind of government we must live under. Will a progressive agenda be foisted on us, or will we have a split legislature where we can live to fight another day? Unfortunately, that really is the choice before us. Are we ready?

Last session, parental rights were upheld by only three Senators. Those rights hang in the balance and hinge on what happens on November 6th. In the case of Jack Phillips, we have seen the arrogance of the Colorado Executive branch when it comes to religious freedom and despite noble efforts, the legislature lacks the votes to reign in the tyranny. Accusations of abuse led to attempts in several states this year calling for increased regulation of homeschoolers. Rumblings seeking change to the homeschool law in Colorado have begun. Are we ready to engage the battle?

Pray!

It cannot be shouted loud enough or said frequently enough: prayer is essential in the battle. In Ephesians 6, after Paul lays out the whole armor of God, verse 18a says, “praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.” God answered the prayers of the faithful homeschool pioneers who worked tirelessly to enable us to teach and disciple our children at home. In the early 1980s, homeschooling would have been said to be illegal in every state. Today homeschooling is legal in every state of the Union – to God be the glory!

Join homeschoolers and friends of homeschooling in prayer this Friday, November 2nd for National Homeschool Day of Prayer. Pray that homeschooling across the country will continue to flourish, and that God will continue to protect our freedoms. Pray for mercy when it comes to the upcoming election! Pray that Christian homeschooling will take root in countries across the world. Pray that the Lord will prepare us and show us what place we have in the upcoming battle.

Thank you!

Trusting in the mighty power and grace of Jesus,

Carolyn Martin
