Educating Yourself
CHEC believes God has given parents the responsibility and authority to educate their children, but more than that, to disciple them in the Lord. Every year at the Rocky Mountain Homeschool Conference, home discipleship is front and center, and this year was no different! The theme for this year’s conference was based on Paul’s admonition in Philippians 3:14 to “press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Parenting our children is a high calling, and it will take great perseverance!
As the culture turns further away from God, the ability of parents to help their children navigate this world requires more of us. In my workshop at the conference, I encouraged parents to educate themselves on what is happening in the culture and prepare their children to confront it from a Biblical perspective. The spiritual battle for your children is real and growing fiercer every year.
There were almost 100 sessions at the conference (check out the schedule here)! Topics ranged from the really practical to the more philosophical. Fortunately, they were all recorded, so even if you could not make it to the conference, you can benefit from the information shared. Go to ResoundingVoice.com to purchase the audio recordings. To educate yourself on what is happening in our culture and the threats to home education, begin by checking out these speakers: Alex Newman, Todd Wilson, Heidi St John, and George Barna. I would also encourage you to read this article by Alex Newman, Vouchers: “School Choice” Trap.
Do you have a group of parents who would benefit from hearing how the Colorado legislature is coming after your parental rights and religious liberty? I would love to come and bring my workshop to you this summer or fall! Contact me at carolyn@chec.org.
Don’t forget to vote! Primary ballots are due Tuesday, June 25th at 7 PM. Check out my blog post from last month to discover why the primary is so important. Questions? Feel free to reach out.
Trusting in the mighty power and grace of Jesus,
