Growing up as a homeschool student, I have fond memories of participating each year in our rural county’s political essay contest. It provided a fun and motivating outlet for my siblings and I to think through current issues and learn to effectively write. Plus, it provided a solid deadline … a concept that was a little foreign to us at first as homeschool students (!) Whatever your students’ interests, contests can be a great way to provide motivation to master a subject and share talents with others!
Below are some upcoming contests open to homeschoolers. Whether your students are interested in writing, math and science, or photography, there’s an opportunity for them!
- Home School Legal Defense Association Essay Contest (Fall 2018). Compete against other homeschool students from across the country in HSLDA’s annual contest. Keep an eye out for fall details coming out soon! Or, read last year’s winners here.
- FRA Americanism Essay Contest grades 7-12 (December 2018). Designed to promote a spirit of patriotism and Americanism, this essay contest is a great opportunity to compete for some pretty hefty prizes! Learn more here.
