Dangerous Trend
Should homeschoolers be given money from the government to educate their children? After all, we pay taxes that fund the public school system just like everyone else, and our children don’t receive the benefit of a free education. With the influence of new homeschoolers escaping the government schools, the idea of the money following the child is growing momentum. It’s a dangerous trend.
George Washington was right when he said that “government is force.” Some of the reasons parents are removing children from the government schools are because of forced policies around health mandates, forced programs that sexualize young children, forced promotion of critical race theory in the classroom, and forced character training that is antithetic to biblical values. These policies and programs are pushed through the education system built by the government and the special interest groups who apply massive pressure on the system to follow their agenda. And how is this pushed through the system? Money. Follow the money.
If homeschooling becomes tied to government funding, the same system that built the very thing parents see as dangerous to their children will demand oversight over how, when, and what homeschool children learn. We must always remember — what the government funds, the government controls. Homeschooling is the only form of education where parents are totally free to dictate every aspect of what their children learn. CHEC would like to keep it that way, and we will continue to voice our opposition to government intrusion into home education wherever we find it. We hope you will too!
“Government is not reason, it is not eloquence — it is force, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”
– George Washington
If you want to know more about this topic, my session on Friday morning at the Rocky Mountain Homeschool Conference will go over this past legislative session and the bills that attempted to fund homeschooling. I hope you’ll join me. There will be lots of great speakers you won’t want to miss!
