As homeschooling families, we choose this path because we know it matters. Yet, as much as we know that homeschooling matters, not everyone else believes it. Since we live in a country where our Christian foundation is being torn down and disregarded, it’s more crucial than ever before to make sure we don’t keep the importance of homeschooling and all that it signifies — religious liberty, parental rights, Christian foundations, and God’s design for the family — to ourselves.
Here at the beginning of the 2020 legislative session, it’s clear how much these things matter. While you are striving to live for God and disciple your children day in and day out, the agenda of those at the Capitol may be far different from what matters most to you — and those very same elected officials are making your decisions.
That’s why we’re asking you to join us for Meet Your Legislator Day on January 30th.
Your family has the opportunity to influence the state of Colorado’s educational and parental freedom when our elected officials interact with your family and hear your views. We’ve designed Meet Your Legislator Day to make an impact while being simple and fun to participate in! (Make it a family field trip! What better civics education can you give your children than this?)
Here are a few tips as you make your plans to join in:
- Register to attend Meet Your Legislator Day for free, so we’ll know to expect you. Be sure to read the FAQs to get your questions answered, and invite your legislators to attend.
- Review these helpful tips for conversing with your elected officials, from Carolyn Martin. And remember- — they are real people, just like us. Rather than a time to be nervous, it’s actually a neat opportunity to connect with another person — who just happens to work in a difficult arena and needs God’s grace just as much as we do.
- Take a few minutes to read this article from the president of the Home School Legal Defense Association. Not only does it offer some great tips to keep in mind in preparing for your visit to the Capitol, it also shows firsthand what an impact homeschooling families really do have.
- Pray for God’s blessing on Meet Your Legislator Day! We can’t ever pray too much, but there’s nothing like the political outlook of our nation to serve as a reminder that we need God to move in hearts. Ask Him for legislators’ attendance at this event, for positive conversations, and for a favorable outlook on homeschooling as a result!
We deeply appreciate your dedication to liberty and can’t wait to see you at Meet Your Legislator Day!
