Friends,
Our dear friend, Treon Goossen, passed away last night (Monday, May 9th) at 8:20 pm. Treon has been a tremendous champion for homeschool freedom in Colorado for many years and so this is a significant loss to the homeschool community.
The memorial service for Treon will be at 10 am on Friday morning, May 13th, at Calvary Chapel Eastside (5070 Edison Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80915).
Today, May 10th, marks the 28th anniversary of when the original Colorado homeschool law was passed into law. And this morning, CHEC Board Member and Colorado Senator Kevin Lundberg had the opportunity to honor Treon from the Senate Floor for her work with the legislature over many years.
Here is a tribute to Treon Goossen offered on behalf of CHEC by former CHEC Executive Director, Kevin Swanson.
I had the privilege of working with Treon Goossen for almost twenty years … and I can testify that Treon contributed more for homeschooling freedoms in this state than any other single person over the last thirty years of the movement. She was a woman of great faith with a selfless commitment to Christ and to liberty.
Whether they have recognized it nor not, at least 100,000 men, women and children in this state have been directly blessed by this woman’s contributions. May she always be remembered for her steadfast labors for the cause of freedom for home education in the state of Colorado.
She fought the good fight. She finished the race in flying colors. I thank God for our sister, Treon Goossen.
Kevin Swanson
