An interview with conductor Neil Craig
“Music is one of God’s greatest and enjoyable creations! It is a thrilling experience to be involved in a musical group that seeks to bless and encourage people, with the goal of doing it with excellence to the glory of God. Like anything else, the more we participate in an activity, the more we learn and the more proficient we become. My hope is that the singers would grow in their understanding of how important it is to perform with musicianship, using the various elements of music to communicate the message of each song.”
What is your past in music, and how are you looking forward to using your skills to bless homeschool families at this conference?
“I have loved music since I was a small child. I always knew that I wanted to be involved in the ministry of music. God has given me many opportunities in this area including being an arranger, accompanist, etc. for ten years with the Back to the Bible Broadcast. My goal in directing the CHEC Family Choir is to make the rehearsals and performance a very enjoyable experience as we join our hearts and voices in singing praises to our Almighty God.”
What memories do you have of your choir at the Washington Christian Heritage Homeschool Conference?
“I have been involved in music for many, many years and without a doubt, my experience in directing the Christian Heritage Chorale at our annual homeschool conference in Washington has been one of the greatest highlights in my musical career. I have directed the chorale for ten years, and each year they have been eager to work hard to perform the music with excellence. They have always been a joy to work with!”
How has enjoying music together enhanced your family’s life?
“My wife and I have involved our children in music since they were very young, even if it was nothing more than playing a triangle. We would perform monthly at a nursing home which was a non-threatening situation for our children, and the nursing home guests loved hearing the children perform. In addition to developing their musical skills and stage presence, it aided them in learning how to socialize and relate to adults at an early age. Ministering together through music has had a unifying effect on our family.”
