One of the many gifts I received from home education was to be actively involved in everyday life, learning firsthand how Christians are to communicate, work, self-sacrifice, repent, and forgive each other daily. Working alongside a sibling or parent aids growth in the “fruits of the Spirit” as we labor together unto the Lord, and seek to honor Him with our thoughts, words, and deeds. Just as my parents uniquely disciplined me, God also disciplined and brought me to Himself. The horizontal relationship with my parents ultimately led me to the vertical relationship I have with God.

Some of the most memorable life lessons were spontaneous and unplanned. On a bike ride one day with my dad, we stopped at a local cemetery for a break which turned into an impromptu lesson on history and mortality. My mom also would stop in the middle of the day to read an encouraging book or article God had impressed upon her heart. She led by example, teaching diligence in organization and daily work around the home.

Now that my high school learning has come to a close, I have turned my attention to furthering my studies of healing herbs to benefit my family and church community. Like the body of Christ pictured in 1 Corinthians 12 where each member brings their unique gifts to the table, I’m blessed to collaborate with my family in growing our Generational Goods business.

Whatever my state in life, be it unmarried or married, I will always be learning how to balance everyday relationships, activities, ministry, and study. This always changing life reminds me of John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress, encouraging me to press onward and upward toward my celestial home.

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2a).

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5).

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33).
