As a homeschooling mom, you are often juggling a whirlwind of responsibilities, expectations, and challenges that can leave you feeling overwhelmed or ill-equipped. The everyday routines can feel lonely at times, and moments of self-doubt can test your determination. When you start to feel like you’re running on empty, remember you don’t have to navigate this journey alone — it’s time to recharge!
When we started homeschooling in 2010, I remember thinking my prior experience as a homeschooled high schooler would give me confidence. Yet, beneath the surface, I faced the same fears and uncertainties that many homeschooling moms experience. What I learned along the way is that if God has led you to this calling, He will surely provide the support you need. He has good plans for you and your family, and if homeschooling is part of that plan, He will sustain you through His presence, His Word, and the fellowship of others who share your journey.
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. –2 Corinthians 9:8 (ESV)
Finding the right people to pour into you is key to helping you recharge and flourish as a homeschooling mom. Whether it’s having heartfelt conversations with your spouse, seeking guidance from a mentor, or connecting with a community of like-minded homeschooling moms, supportive relationships can make all the difference.
Three Resources to Turn to When You Need to Recharge
#1 – Your Spouse: One of the most important things I learned on our homeschooling journey is the value of open communication with my husband. Sharing the highs and lows helped lighten my emotional load and gave him a chance to weigh in on challenges. These daily check-ins (private conversations when children weren’t present) ultimately strengthened our partnership and resolve. However, once you’ve had your discussion, make it a priority to enjoy the rest of your one-on-one time together! #2 – A Homeschooling Mentor: I realized how beneficial it is to have a mentor — someone who’s been in your shoes and truly understands the unique struggles of homeschooling. Early on, I reached out to a local veteran homeschooler who became an incredible source of wisdom and support throughout our homeschooling years. Whether you have one go-to mentor or you nurture relationships with several more experienced moms, a mentor can offer practical advice, share insights, and provide emotional support during tough times.
#3 – Fellowship with Homeschool Moms: Connecting with other homeschooling moms was a game-changer for me. These connections alleviated any feelings of isolation, and sharing our stories — both achievements and challenges — is an uplifting and inspiring experience for everyone involved. However, there are times when we need to step back from the weekly demands and make time to nurture these relationships. Make it a priority to attend special events designed to pour into homeschooling moms and provide space for real conversations.
By leaning into these support systems, you can cultivate a more fulfilling and sustainable homeschooling experience. Receiving wisdom from mentors who have walked the same path can provide invaluable insights and encouragement, helping you feel less isolated in your experiences. And dedicated fellowship time with other homeschooling moms can create a sense of belonging and provide restoration during difficult times.
