This is not an endorsement of the site or author, but look at the great lengths some countries are going to in order to shut down homeschooling. Note that HSLDA is actively involved. Stay vigilant and active in your government!

We at CHEC have long advocated the Home School Legal Defense Assocation (HSLDA.org). With a batting record in court that would water any coach’s eyes, they are your first line of human defense against the tyranny of social workers and law enforcement agents who may not fully know or appreciate your rights like the U.S. Constitution 4th Amendment protection against unreasonable search and seizure without a warrant and/or probable cause. The cost to join is minimal, especially when you consider you are getting a first rate legal team that stays on the job 24/7. But, there are many more resources available from them to include the Home School Court Report which keeps you up to date of what is going on with litigation nationwide. Please pray for Mike Donnelly, our Colorado rep, and all at HSLDA that God will bless their endeavors to protect our freedoms. And while you are at it, pray for Treon Goossen who vigilantly monitors the Colorado legislative scene.

Many of you were following the case of a persecuted German homeschooling family the last couple of years. Sadly, persecution continues in Sweden and other European countries, but we’re hopeful that the attack on homeschooling in England may be cooling for now.
Mr. Penn Pfiffner recently forwarded me an article explaining that U.S. immigration court Judge Lawrence O. Burman granted asylum to the German family who fled the tyranny of their country which authorized the “stamping out” of parallel societies like homeschoolers. This was partly due to the great efforts of the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) and HSLDA.
Thanks be to God that America is still a place people go to escape tyranny. May it continue by His mercy.

Folks,
State Senator Lundberg advised us of a bill before the Finance Committee next Wednesday, February 24th, 2010. This bill would provide a tax credit to those pulling their children out of public school into a home or private school. This bill does NOT provide tax credits for current home or private schooling, but is a step in that direction. That is why CHEC is asking all homeschoolers to support this bill. HSLDA is on top of this one and has contact and other information here. Time is of the essence to let the Finance Committee know we care. You do not necessarily need to tell them you are a homeschooler–the bill would generate money for the state of Colorado and is why it is before the Finance Committee. This is a good example of why you should also attend our annual Day at the Capitol event on April 16th, 2010!

On Saturday, 24 Oct 2009, Treon & Dean Goossen held a memorial service for Chris Klicka. Approximately 100 people gathered at Calvary Chapel Eastside in Colorado Springs. This was a time to remember and give thanks while grieving the loss of a dear brother. Pictured below are Bill Roach, Treon, and I spoke at the event. Dean Goossen, Wayne Tully, Kevin Swanson, and Kevin Lundberg also spoke or sang at the event. Thanks to all who came out.

Mrs. Treon Goossen has arranged for a time to come together to worship God and thank Him for Chris Klicka’s life. It is a time to mourn his passing but also to rejoice that he is home. It is also a time to determine to press on and continue the battle for home school freedoms as Chris taught us so well to do. Consider joining us Saturday, October 24th, at Calvary Chapel Eastside in Colorado Springs, from 10 to 11 am.

Dean & Treon Goossen will be speaking as well as Bill Roach, President of CHEC, Kevin Swanson, Generations Radio, and Mike Chapa, Executive Director of CHEC. Kevin Lundberg will be singing.
The church is located at 5070 Edison Avenue. This is a frontage road which parallels East Platte (HWY 24) on the north side of Platte. The church is directly across Platte from the CO Springs Flea Market.

Our dear brother and defender of Colorado homeschool freedoms has gone to glory. He will be missed dearly, especially by his bride and their seven children. Please go to this HSLDA link and read the tribute.

Immediately following the Alliance Conference last week, several of us from CHEC attended the annual Home School Legal Defense Assocation (www.hslda.org) conference, also held in Colorado Springs. HSLDA has advocated for homeschoolers in the courtroom, legislative halls, on the phone with social workers, and many other ways for 26 years. The conference included workshops and special guest speakers. Founders J. Michael Smith

and Mike Farris

and our new Colorado attorney representative, Mike Donnelly, helped host the event.

Speakers included Dr. David Noebel of Summit Ministries in Manitou Springs (www.summit.org),

Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family (www.focusonthefamily.com),

and former U.S. Senator Bill Armstrong (now President of Colorado Christian University www.ccu.edu).

On Saturday evening, a fitting tribute to Chris Klicka was given. Chris has been our faithful Colorado attorney representative for a long time, but stepped down recently due to health reasons.

Those of you who are not members of HSLDA should reconsider. They are your professional legal counsel should you ever need it–all for the cost of two trips to the specialty coffee shop per month. And, they help ensure homeschooling freedoms we currently enjoy, even if you are not a member.
