It’s summer, and it’s time for a break. After all the hard work put into teaching through a difficult semester, the last thing you want is for your kids to forget everything. And, your kids have to do something on summer break. So why not consider launching some projects that will both teach and provide some well-earned fun?

Colorado General Assembly Back in Session
On March 14, 2020, the Colorado Legislature recessed for what they and the entire state thought would be a short two weeks. Never could we have conceived that this shutdown would last for over ten weeks. This past Tuesday, the general assembly reconvened. They are dealing with a vastly different outlook for the state of Colorado than when they began their session in January.
In this first week upon their return, the focus will be on slashing the budget to align with new state income projections. The bills mandating higher taxes and fees like the FAMLI Leave Act and the Public Health Option, will have to wait. It is expected that they will jettison quite a few bills, like those proposing to eliminate the usage of such things as plastic straws and Styrofoam. But it doesn’t mean every bad bill that expands the reach of government will disappear.

I loved being out and about with my kids during our homeschooling years! Once the two oldest of my five had their own cars, it was just me and the younger three who did all the errands. We did most of our grocery shopping once a month. It meant I had to plan ahead and budget well, but it saved us so much money! Every time we were in the store, I let the kids each pick out some little treat if they were good. That meant the less kids we had on the shopping trip, the less treats I had to buy — money saved!

A note from CHEC Executive Director Steve Craig:
Who would have predicted that life as we know it would have changed so dramatically during the last few months? I can’t tell you how grateful I am that we put our faith in the sovereign God who is working all things for the good of those who love Him and that we can cast all of our cares upon Him!
This week, the CHEC Board of Directors concluded that we are forced to cancel the 2020 Rocky Mountain Homeschool Conference in Denver. This difficult conclusion was delayed as long as possible as we know it will affect and disappoint many homeschool families, volunteers, exhibitors, and speakers.

Concern of an Ongoing Emergency Declaration
As we enter the third month of essentially a shutdown of every aspect of our lives, a sense of panic and grief attempts to settle in my heart. I am not afraid of contracting a virus or of dying because I know God rules and reigns and He has counted my days before I was even born. What I am concerned about is the fear that is gripping our society. A fear that tries to shame those who don’t refrain from shaking hands or hugging their friends; who have done the research and know that wearing a mask does not ensure safety from the invisible enemy; and who believe and trust in God above men who claim to have expert knowledge.
