On November 19, 2015, our CHEC staff team launched the CHEC blog, and over the last year, we’ve used it to share homeschool encouragement, practical how-tos, updates on state legislative issues, upcoming CHEC events, and more. Here’s a sampling of our most popular posts – have you read these ones yet?
- 5 Ways Dads Can Get Involved
- Middle School Math
- Does That Count As School?
- Smart Kids Who Hate to Write
- A Boy-friendly Homeschool
- Two Plus Two Equals Peace
Whether you just plugged into the blog or have been following it since we began, we’re grateful you are a part of the journey! Our prayer is that the blog would be a blessing and help to families in Colorado and beyond.
To celebrate our one year anniversary, we’ll be giving away a Homeschool Family Encouragement Package to one blog subscriber! (Read on for more details.)
But first, we’d like to introduce our fantastic blog editor so you can get to know her a little more: Julianna Dotten.
Katie: Hello Julianna! You came on staff with us as Marketing Assistant just over a year ago and were a huge part of launching the blog. I’m so grateful for all you do! Today I’d like to introduce our blog readers to you. Would you share a little with us about your family?
Julianna: I am blessed to have amazing parents who homeschooled my three siblings and I from the very beginning. In fact, my mom told my dad she wouldn’t marry him unless she could homeschool! Well, I guess that settled it, and the CHEC conferences transformed him into the best homeschool champion ever (I least, I think so!)
Katie: What were some challenges and blessings you experienced as a homeschooler?
Julianna: I loved homeschooling because it gave me the time to pursue my interests that I never would have had otherwise. I’ll also be forever grateful for the daily opportunities it gave me to glean from the wisdom of my parents. Probably my biggest challenge, though, was learning to balance my love for learning with relationships and household duties. I’m still trying to figure that one out!
Katie: Tell us a little about your work as a blog editor; what goes on behind-the-scenes?
Julianna: I typically brainstorm a month ahead of time about possible blog authors and topics. Along the way, I’ve been able to connect with some really neat people and learn a lot about graphics, SEO, and dealing with different writing styles. What a blessing!
Katie: What have been your favorite blog posts?
Julianna: Here are my favorites: Teaching Your Children to Love Jesus, Homeschool Through High School?, Concealed Arrows, Secret of Successful Homeschooling, Carrying On, and Eldercare and Homeschooling.
Katie: Now for some fun! What are some of your favorite things?
Julianna: If you happen to catch me in a spare moment, you’ll probably find me singing with my sisters, playing the piano, or reading anything I can get my hands on about history, especially about Jonathan Edwards. Yes, my favorite book this year was The Life and Character of the Late Reverend Jonathan Edwards by Samuel Hopkins. I also discovered the blessing of Habakkuk this year. For me, a good vacation involves hiking Colorado’s amazing 14ners! And my favorite dessert? Probably carob coconut bars. Yum!
Many thanks to Julianna for all she has done to keep the CHEC blog rolling. We are grateful for her service and look forward to much more encouragement ahead!
