Geography Bee

With warnings of a serious snowstorm developing the night before the bee, I contacted all the families and rescheduled the bee to start at a later time on Dec. 1st.  The snowstorm ended up being a minimal dusting and so most everyone was able to attend.  Only one family dropped out, and that was because they were driving over the mountain passes (where the storm was bad) and they were coming from a long distance (Grand Junction). The bee went very smoothly, and was followed by a brief awards ceremony in which each participant received a certificate of participation and a two-dollar gift certificate to Baskin Robbins.  The winner received a medal from National Geographic as well.  A reception was held for all the participants and their families.

Of the eleven children who participated, many were participants in previous years.  Our winner this year, Autumn Hughes, was also a winner for a previous year.  Autumn took the written test to qualify for the Colorado State Geography Bee.
