Day at the Capitol 2010 Highlights!

What a day!  God gave us clear weather and we had a great turnout, especially for the Rally on the western steps featuring our keynote speaker, former US Senator and current President of Colorado Christian University, Mr. Bill Armstrong.  Mr. Armstrong was presented with the CHEC Statesman of the Year award for his lifetime of public service.

State Senator and CHEC Board Member Kevin Lundberg sang the national anthem after the Colors were posted by the CAP Mustang Cadet Squadron:

Generations with Vision Director (and former CHEC Executive Director) Kevin Swanson delivered the prayer of petition and then awarded the Bill Roach Family with the Ruth Beechick award recognizing them as homeschool leaders who have distinguished themselves in Colorado.  This was way overdue–the Roach family gives selflessly year after year to homeschoolers in Colorado and nationwide and Bill continues to serves so admirably in the role of CHEC Board President.

Many Colorado State Representatives and Senators turned out to show their support for Christian homeschooling.  Praise God for these men!

Treon Goossen gave us a legislative update which included the good news that our rights to homeschool in Colorado are not being seriously challenged this year.  Amen to that.

Glenn Tyler and his team taught the children upstairs at Pillar of Fire church while Shawn Mathis and I talked to teens downstairs about government and jurisdictions while Brad Hamill taught junior statesmen.

There were many more volunteers that made this day possible–thank you!  I do want to make a special note of thanks to our events coordinator, Scott Davidson, for putting it all together–thank you, Scott!

Please join us again next year as we send a strong message to our legislators that we want to keep our freedoms to educate our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Freedom of religion in your homeschool textbooks? 24 Mar 10

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Friends,

Apparently, some in the secular world do not like that you have homeschool textbooks that fear God and not man.  Regardless of your position on creation and evolution, we do not want the government telling us what our homeschool texts teach.  We do not want thought control from big brother–we want our freedom to practice our religion without government interference.  Another reason to come to Day at the Capitol on Friday, 16 Apr 2010!

Action Needed! HB1295–Tax Credit to Leave Public School

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

capitol

Folks,

State Senator Lundberg advised us of a bill before the Finance Committee next Wednesday, February 24th, 2010.  This bill would provide a tax credit to those pulling their children out of public school into a home or private school.  This bill does NOT provide tax credits for current home or private schooling, but is a step in that direction.  That is why CHEC is asking all homeschoolers to support this bill.  HSLDA is on top of this one and has contact and other information here.  Time is of the essence to let the Finance Committee know we care.  You do not necessarily need to tell them you are a homeschooler–the bill would generate money for the state of Colorado and is why it is before the Finance Committee.  This is a good example of why you should also attend our annual Day at the Capitol event on April 16th, 2010!
